Workshop – Introduction to CLI for UBC ARC Sockeye May 31, 2023

Are you new to high performance computing? Struggling to get a sense of how to start with text-based commands—known as the Command Line Interface (CLI) — and are you used to using computers by clicking on graphics only? This workshop is for you!

On May 31, 2023, 10:00am-11:00am PDT, ARC staff will walk attendees through CLI, including what is CLI and how to use it to navigate UBC ARC Sockeye (“Sockeye”). This will provide the foundational skills to begin to use Sockeye and attend other UBC ARC workshops.

Location: Zoom

Who Should Attend?

UBC faculty, staff, and students who are currently using high performance computing (HPC) systems such as Sockeye or the Alliance (formerly Compute Canada) systems or intend to use them.

  • A Sockeye account. If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to ask your supervisor to reach out to with your CWL, UBC email, and full name along with their Sockeye allocation code and we’d be happy to set up an account for you. If you haven’t yet logged in to Sockeye, you should read this guide and become familiar with the steps to login:
  •  No other experience is required besides having a Sockeye account and being able to login.
