Digital Exposure: What They Know, How They Know It, and Why It Matters

October 15, 2025, 10:00 am to 11:00 am

Virtual event

Ever wonder how much of your identity can be pieced together from seemingly harmless data? This interactive session explores the concept of the “mosaic effect,” where fragmented pieces of your digital footprint—like metadata, vendor tracking, and overlooked privacy policy clauses—come together to reveal a surprisingly complete picture of who you are. Through trivia, audience polls, real-life examples, and metadata guessing games, participants will uncover how data is collected, combined, and sometimes exploited to profile individuals—and what steps you can take to reduce your exposure.

This event is organized by Privacy Matters @ UBC as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Click here to register.
