Workshop: Mastering PostgreSQL Database Design October 16, 2023

Ever felt like ditching Excel because it turned into a cell-zilla but not sure what to use instead?
Ever thought about whipping up your own DBMS (Database Management System) but not sure where to start?
If the answer to either of the above is yes, then this workshop is for you! In this engaging, hands-on 3-hour workshop, we'll teach you all the ins and outs of setting up a relational database from square one, such as creating tables, managing users, and navigating your data using a UI.
Date: October 16 and 17, 2023 (09:00-12:00 PDT). The workshop content is the same both days. Please choose your preferred date.
Mode: In-person.
Venue: Koerner Library 548/552 (UBC-V).
Difficulty Level: Beginner.
Prerequisites:
- Passion for Databases. Your enthusiasm is your ticket in! Prior knowledge of databases is not required. We've got you covered with access to our database server, sample datasets, and a full suite of SQL queries.
- A laptop: Ensure you have a laptop for the workshop.
- A valid UBC CWL. Before attending, install the Cisco AnyConnect Security Mobility client on your laptop (https://it.ubc.ca/services/email-voice-internet/myvpn). Ensure you can connect to myvpn.ubc.ca using your UBC CWL credentials and the MFA authentication.
Workshop Capacity:
To ensure optimal interactivity, each session will be limited to 10 participants. Admission is on a "first come, first served" basis, though we will maintain a waitlist.
