UBC researchers in need of computational resources for to support their research are invited to apply for access to UBC ARC Sockeye.
Sockeye has been designed to significantly increase UBC’s computational capacity and supplement the resources available through national research computing platforms to meet the needs of UBC researchers.
Applications for Sockeye allocations can be submitted at any time of the academic year.
DETAILS & ELIGIBILITY
A Sockeye allocation provides shared access to all available GPUs and CPUs, and includes project storage and scratch space for immediate computing for up to 12 months (applications to be renewed by June 30th each year).
Whether you are a new or existing user of Sockeye, if it is evident that more resources are required than our standard Sockeye allocation, contact us to discuss options. A consultation may also be scheduled. Priority for additional resources is primarily awarded to eligible UBC researchers who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Are new to UBC (within five years),
- Are early-career researchers, or
- Have research data that must be hosted on-site or cannot be accommodated by any other existing computational resources (e.g., the national DRI platform).
ACCESSING SOCKEYE
Eligible UBC Researchers can ask for a Sockeye allocation at any time. Note that Eligible UBC Researchers are defined by the UBC Policy #LR2: Research, Procedures Section 4.1. Use of the system is contingent on acceptance of the UBC ARC Sockeye Terms of Service.
Access is granted per research team or lab, with the requesting UBC Faculty member or Principal Investigator serving as Allocation Owner. Allocation Owners are able to request for any user to have access as long as they have an enhanced Campus Wide Login and an institutional email address.
